How do we do it?

We were pioneers in our country

Since 2017, we have been developing the first, most comprehensive direct participation process in Spain for a major city creation project. We work with different collectives (children, teenagers, the elderly, women and people with disabilities) and with the residents of the surrounding neighbourhoods. And we adapt to their needs.

We do all this with real commitment, avoiding creating false expectations and prioritising transparency at all stages of the project. A two-way conversation with a 5-step methodology:

We understand that each area has its own history, distinctive features and personality. We know each neighbourhood intimately.

It is essential that you know all the information about the project in order to be able to participate effectively.

We are creating a city in which you are at the centre: our urban planning

Madrid Nuevo Norte is changing the way we create new neighbourhoods, with the help of the people who will live there. This is why we have redefined the features of urban planning that makes a city.

Integrative urban planning

Building a city for the future by defending the essence of a lifelong neighbourhood. We rely on permanent collaboration with neighbours and associations of the surrounding neighbourhoods.

We are bringing back what is most authentic and unique to Madrid: the soul of the neighbourhood. We are building a future based on tradition, history and the everlasting essence of Madrid. Our way of creating a city and a future is by creating a neighbourhood, and that is why we want to:

Collaborate, build networks and reach consensus step by step with neighbours, local and traders' associations, strengthening the local associative network.

Bring the surrounding neighbourhoods together and integrate them into the project, and also with each other, promoting a sense of community.

Defend the identity and local culture of the neighbourhoods, respecting the tradition and heritage of their inhabitants. We want to preserve the history, character, and unique personality of each neighbourhood, translating our past in the city of the future.

Inclusive urban planning

Giving voice and prominence to all the diverse groups that inhabit the city.

The inclusion of diverse social groups that have historically been unheard in the planning of cities means:

A perspective of broad inclusion in urban planning: children, teenagers, women, the elderly, people with disabilities and all the social groups that form part of the city, now and in the future.

Listening, knowing and understanding the specific needs of each collective so that all people feel represented. Maintaining a receptive attitude towards their needs, historical demands and problems.

Taking into account the opinion and experience of different groups of people using the city and incorporate it into the design of the city. In this way, we learn from the diverse uses of the city.

Participatory urban planning

Incorporating citizen participation in all phases of the project.

We call for the citizens' involvement in the project through participatory processes. We believe in:

The right of citizens to be involved in decisions that affect their environment and their city.

Promoting a continuous process of citizen participation, promoting specific activities and projects to permanently inform, involve and generate spaces for participation throughout the process.

Involving everyone who shares the city to design a project tailored to people: on a human scale.

Fostering a participatory culture that, in addition to enriching and improving the project, has a positive impact on society and a transformative experience. We want to generate a sense of identification between citizens and the project.

New urban planning

Inaugurating a new way of city-making that puts people at the centre of planning.

A paradigm shift in urban planning that places people as its core. A new way of making a city in our country, with the potential to become a benchmark for other urban projects in Spain and Europe.
